not sure

It's looming. There's no avoiding it. In over a month I hit a big number that's supposed to mean something in life. Well, things haven't turned out as I expected. But whatever does? Some pretty hard stuff is going on at the moment, but the amazingly great things in my craft life keep me distracted enough most of the time (not to mention two little boys keeping it real).
Still deciding if I'm scared of this number or not. Hoping to just embrace it.

Sorry to hear things aren't great for you at the moment Kristen. For what it is worth, you look nothing like the 40 I imagined when I was growing up. You look very youthful. I hope things pick up for you soon.

Oh no its not scary at all. I did it last year - and really its just another number...
But i'm sorry to hear things are hard at the moment.

The fact is that you can't logically do anything else than embrace it. You could try pretending to be 39 for the rest of your life but hey! why would you want to do that. 40 is just a number. 8x5=48, 4x10=40, 2x20=40. See just a number. No biggie. Sorry to hear about the hard times. They are much more real than an imaginary number. Leave the mid life crisis to the men I say. Hope things improve. Remember how much your true friends love you. I'm turning 42 in a few months so I'm a total expert at being in my 40s. :D Jodie's right, it's just another number and I didn't feel the need to go out and have a mid-life crisis or anything, but it did make me think about my life a bit harder. And I think that's a good thing really, because it made me come to terms with where my life is now compared to where I thought it would be when I was 20. It made me accept who I am and realise that no, I'm never going to suddenly become outgoing or be a supermodel even if I somehow became stick-thin. You learn to let go of what might have been and to embrace what is and what will be. It's a good age to be comfortable in your own skin. Welcome to the club!

I'm getting awfully close to that number myself. I've got a couple of years to go, but I understand exactly what you mean!
I'm really looking forward to your new designs. :-)

(Eep! The word verification is 'funban'. Fun ban? Nothing to do with turning 40 I'm sure!!!)

My sister turns 40 tomorrow and she's just as freaked out. I told her that 40 is the new 20. All the movie stars are getting older and now the hot women are mostly in their 40s. Besides there is something comforting in getting older.

It took as many years as you have to be the designer and woman you are today. I wouldn't regret any of them as you've earned them. When I learnt Spanish a few years back I discovered that to ask "How old are you?" they say "How many years do you have?" I love that. Embrace it. x

Kristen... How did you go turing 30? That's what I am nearly up to so I'll see how you embrace 40 and follow suit!! I like the look of number 4 though...

I think Oprah said 40 is the new 30, and if Oprah said it well you know it's the truth! I hope things get easier for you soon. xx

Hello Kristen, when I turned 40 (3 years ago) I LOVED IT !!!
I found sewing and stitching again and I found some *guts* to live life how I WANTED TO.
Hope you get this great feeling too.

I reached this number last weekend.... it actually feels good to say "I AM 40" rather than the whole "I am nearly 40"...with a big sigh!

Embrace and Enjoy

Maybe the reason why 40 is so scary because no one told you that you have to go through those to get to 50-wonderful? Yes, the body tends to deteriorate a bit here and there, but if you can put up with that, just you wait! It's terrific in the 50's--you just have to get here!

Hi Kristen,

If it helps I'm approaching 50...its just another day, you will only be one day older than the day before :)

Hope things get easier for you soon.

Hugs, Sharon

Being an old pro at the 40 thing (last July 30) I can tell you it's no different, just as good as the years before! Age is definitely just a number and it seems that 40-somethings are so much younger nowadays than in the past. I hope that whatever hardships are bearing down on you soon lift and give you time to enjoy turning the big 4-0.

I'm sorry to hear that things aren't going as well at the moment - blurghhh. I'm just discovering that sometimes when things don't go to plan we find or make alternative plans that later are so much better for where you're at, or where you need to be.
You look amazing for almost 40. It doesn't make much difference, I don't think - we work ourselves up about a number, and realise that it is after all just a number. My sister is turning 30 this year, and she's having a slight freak out about it.... for no good reason at all! She'll slip into with ease and confidence. Just as you will with 40.
I hope you use it as a good excuse to have a fantabulous party and invite all those friends you never get to see.
Love E xxx
{word verification is "corkwoo" - I think that means some good drinking is in the very near future for you!! Or perhaps you'll meet and be wooed by a wealthy wine merchant this year....}

Yeah I think embracing is far easier! My sister turns the big 40 this year and I am not too far behind her.... I hope I can take my own advice :-) Hope there is light at the end of the tunnel x

I'm a bit delayed in commenting but 'embrace it' I say! It happened to me last year and I've survived!! You can't avoid it so enjoy it! (It must be soon!)
